Market Report Santa Monica, Calif.
Wednesday, May 15, 2002

The Market:
Santa Monica Farmers Market
Santa Monica, Calif.
Arizona & 3rd Street
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Market Notes:
Stone fruit season has arrived.  The earliest varieties are rarely if ever the best, but who can resist the first of the season.  They're good enough.  I also can never resist large fresh onions, particularly when they're only $1 for a bundle of several big ones.  I also buy (not pictured at left) strawberries at $4 for a three-pack, fava beans at $.80/lb..

Market-Goer: Mark Thompson, publisher of this Web site

What I Bought:

Peach, nectarine, apricot, pluot

Price: Ranged from $1.50-$2/lb., with premium varieties as high as $3/lb.

Fresh white onions, green garlic, fresh red onion

Green garlic (left)

Price: $1/bunch
