The Market:
Venice Farmers Market
Venice Blvd. at Venice Way
7 to 11 a.m.

Market-Goer:
Mark Thompson, publisher of this Web site

What I Bought:

Assorted Stone Fruit

The flattened peaches in the foreground of the photograph above are known variously as Saturn or Donut peaches.  They are white-fleshed and meaty and very good. The other fruits pictured above include Flavor Queen and Dapple Dandy pluots and a Satsuma plum.

Price: $2/lb
$2.50/lb. for donut peaches

Chinese eggplant, okra, Italian sweet peppers

Since I'm still overwhelmed with tomatoes from my backyard garden, I pass up the tomatoes that fill the market today and look for other hot-season vegetable favorites, like these..

Price: $2/lb.

Basil, Chinese and Japanese eggplant

Price: $1/bunch for basil

Grapes
