This is one of the best Sunday
farmers markets in New York City, in my opinion. It
stretches down the sidewalk alongside leafy Tompkins Square
Park, in the funky East Village neighborhood of lower
Manhattan.

What I Bought:

|
|
brussel
sprouts and red cippolini onions
Price: $5/lb. for brussel
sprouts
$5/lb. for cippolini onions

|
mini
bell peppers and heirloom tomato
| There were
lots of heirloom tomatoes in the market
today, and they looked and tasted -- as
I discovered upon getting home and
eating the tomato I purchased -- as good
as tomatoes at the peak of summer. No
wonder. The temperature hasn't yet dipped
much below the mid-40s so far this year.
Last fall, in contrast, was cold and rainy, and
that was reflected
in the tomatoes I purchased in a New York City
famers market exactly a year ago to the
day, as you'll see in the photo to the
right. |
